To create a friendly environment for childbirth and reduce the transportation burden for pregnant women, the Nantou County Government held a press conference on the morning of the 7th in the first-floor lobby of the county hall to launch the "Good Pregnancy Card" taxi subsidy program. County Magistrate Hsu Shu-Hua invited guests to join in activating the "Nantou County Good Pregnancy Card" and announced that online applications would be open from the 8th. She encouraged pregnant women in the county to take advantage of this benefit.
Magistrate Hsu stated that the "Good Pregnancy Ride, Smooth Travel" program provides a subsidy of NT$5,000 (points) per pregnancy through the Good Pregnancy Card. Pregnant women can use the card when booking taxis via major taxi service apps or phone reservations. The program subsidizes up to NT$250 (points) per ride. From pregnancy until three months after the estimated due date, eligible pregnant women can receive taxi fare subsidies when traveling within or between Nantou, Taichung, and Changhua.
Magistrate Hsu noted that March 8 is International Women’s Day, and the county government chose to launch this program as a special gift for expectant mothers in Nantou. The Good Pregnancy Card aims to provide a safe and convenient transportation environment for pregnancy check-ups, childbirth, postpartum visits, and infant healthcare. Applications can be made online via the Nantou County Government e-Counter, eliminating the need for in-person applications. She also expressed gratitude to the County Council for supporting the budget, making this benefit possible. The Good Pregnancy Card is just the beginning, and the county government plans to expand related policies to support women from pregnancy to postpartum care, encouraging more young mothers to embrace parenthood.
Nantou County is vast, and pregnant women often rely on family members or public transport for medical check-ups, which can be inconvenient. To address this, the county government partnered with EasyCard Corporation to launch the Good Pregnancy Card. Nine major taxi fleets in the Taichung-Changhua-Nantou region, totaling over 3,800 taxis, have joined the program, ensuring pregnant women have access to convenient transportation throughout pregnancy and up to three months postpartum.
EasyCard Corporation Chairman Lin Chih-Ying highlighted that the Nantou Good Pregnancy Card is more than a regular EasyCard—it is a special version designed for expectant mothers. Each card is preloaded with government subsidies, and cardholders can check their balance anytime through the EasyCard website or mobile app. The card also supports personal top-ups via bank accounts linked to the app. If a single trip exceeds the NT$250 subsidy, the fare difference will be automatically deducted from the stored value. Additionally, to help pregnant women with baby care expenses, the company is working with major pharmacy chains to offer discounts on essential items such as baby formula and diapers. Local businesses in Nantou interested in joining this program can contact the company for assistance in setting up EasyCard payment terminals.
The Department of Social Affairs and Labor emphasized that this transportation subsidy aims to support expectant mothers from pregnancy to early childcare, fostering a friendly childbirth environment. The application and reissue process is entirely online. Applicants simply need to visit the Nantou County Government e-Counter, select the "Good Pregnancy Taxi Service" option, and upload required documents, including the pregnancy health manual or newborn birth certificate, a personal photo, and proof of residence (ID card, household registration booklet, or transcript). First-time applications are free, and the process is quick and convenient.
Several county councilors, including Lin Ru-Yang, Lin Yi-Ru, Huang Chun-Lin, Tsai Meng-O, Lin You-You, as well as Legislative Yuan member You Hao’s office director Yuan Guo-Sheng, and councilor assistant Lin Yi-Hung, attended the event to show their support.
The design of the Good Pregnancy Card is inspired by the concept of "Good Pregnancy for a Lifetime, Prosperity for Generations." The gourd has long been a symbol of good fortune due to its homophonic association with "fortune and prosperity" in Chinese. It is also a representation of fertility, as its vines extend and its seeds are abundant. The Nantou County Government incorporated the imagery of "fortune" and "continuation" into the card’s design, hoping that all expectant mothers will carry blessings with them, ensuring a smooth pregnancy and extending happiness to future generations.
