As a result, the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration and Yuanlin Bus Company launched the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle 6739 "Sun Moon Lake—Alishan Line" in December last year. The starting point is the Shui She Shopping Area at Sun Moon Lake, and the endpoint is the Alishan Transfer Station, passing through attractions such as the Meizi Dream Factory in Xinyi Township, Caopingtou, Tataka, and the Te Fu Ye Ancient Trail. Originally, there was one round trip per day, but starting May 1, there will be an additional round trip on weekends and public holidays.
The Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration suggests that the "Sun Moon Lake—Alishan Line" operates on a reservation system. It is recommended that tourists make reservations online two days in advance or call the reservation hotline at 049-2770041. On weekdays, there is one bus departing from Sun Moon Lake to Alishan at 8:00 a.m., and returning from Alishan to Sun Moon Lake at 1:00 p.m. On weekends, there will be an additional round trip with a bus departing at 8:30 a.m. to Alishan and returning at 3:30 p.m. to meet the increased demand and provide more flexibility for tourists' travel plans.
The Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration recommends that tourists who want to deeply experience the surrounding areas of Alishan and Sun Moon Lake consider the "Sun Moon Lake—Alishan Shuttle Package." This special edition IC transport card includes stored value for single-trip tickets from Taichung to Sun Moon Lake, Sun Moon Lake to Alishan, and three additional discounts, making it the best choice for traveling between these two major international scenic areas.
The Administration noted that visitors using the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle Sun Moon Lake Line can engage in agricultural experiences and DIY food activities in the Puli Leisure Agricultural Area, visit the filming location of the popular drama "Gold Leaf" at the Old Tea Factory in Sun Moon Lake, or enjoy the theme park at the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village. The Sun Moon Lake—Checheng Line offers experiences such as pottery at the century-old Shuili Snake Kiln and visiting the Railway Tourist Primary School in Checheng to experience the wood industry culture. From now until August 31, 2025, passengers with electronic tickets can enjoy half-price fares on the Sun Moon Lake Shuttle routes.
