The tunnels No. 1, 2, and 3 on the Jiji Line have been in use for over 80 years and have accumulated issues such as water leakage, insufficient clearance, and poor track alignment. To thoroughly improve and repair these tunnels, and to enhance the infrastructure and operational safety of the Jiji Line, the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) will carry out the "TRA Jiji Line Infrastructure Improvement Project - Tunnel and Slope Improvement Design-Build Contract" according to the planned schedule. This project includes the restoration of sections of tunnels No. 2 and 3, which were damaged by landslides caused by heavy rain and earthquakes. The construction work is planned to start on May 2, 2024, and is expected to be completed and operational by the end of December 2025.
Due to the aforementioned improvement works, the Jiji Line trains will be shortened to run only between Ershui Station and Zhuoshui Station, with 18 trains running daily. The section between Zhuoshui Station and Checheng Station will be suspended. Road shuttle services will be provided for the Zhuoshui to Checheng section, following the existing shuttle bus mode between Jiji Station and Checheng Station. To facilitate passenger transfers, additional shuttle buses will be added on holidays, and stops at the Agricultural Research Institute/Biological Diversity Research Center and the Military History Park will be included to promote local tourism.
During the train suspension period between Zhuoshui and Checheng, road bus shuttles will be used, causing inconvenience to passengers for which the TRA sincerely apologizes.
