The strongest cold wave has arrived! Snowfall began at around 3 a.m. today in Hehuanshan, Ren’ai Township, Nantou, with an accumulation of 4 cm. The Highway Bureau implemented a preemptive closure last night (22nd) and began snow removal operations this morning after the snowfall, opening the roads at 8 a.m. However, the section from Kunyang to Dayuling (29K to 41.5K) requires snow chains for passage. People heading up the mountain to chase the snow should take note.
The Puli Works Section of the Highway Bureau stated that weather in high mountain areas can change rapidly, and the controlled sections will be adjusted dynamically based on current conditions. During the snow season in Hehuanshan, when there is snowfall or icy roads, large buses of category A and B, trucks over 3.5 tons, and all types of motorcycles and slow-moving vehicles are prohibited from entering the controlled sections.
Additionally, if people plan to travel on Highway 8 and Highway 14A, it is advisable to avoid going unless necessary, as mountain roads are difficult to navigate during the snow season. Before setting off, ensure that snow chains are ready for your vehicle, and pay attention to weather forecasts and traffic information.
