Nantou County Magistrate Hsu Shu-hua presided over a county affairs meeting yesterday. During the meeting, she addressed the transportation needs of people visiting Nantou for the Lantern Festival and other popular tourist spots during the Lunar New Year. She instructed the county's Transportation Management Office to implement effective traffic management plans, the County Police Bureau to assist in traffic diversion, and the Tourism, News, and Administrative Offices to help disseminate relevant information, ensuring that visitors to Nantou can enjoy their trip smoothly.

Hsu Shu-hua stated that with the upcoming Lunar New Year, the Nantou Lantern Festival organized by the county government attracts nearly 5 million visitors every year. Tourist spots such as Xitou and Sun Moon Lake are particularly popular during the spring. Xitou, in particular, is a popular destination for people seeking a cool retreat and hiking opportunities. In response to the increased travel during the Lunar New Year, the county government has initiated a traffic management plan for the Xitou Corridor (County Road 151), which includes providing parking alerts, shuttle services, and guidance solutions to manage and alleviate traffic. From the second day to the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, from 9 a.m. to 5:20 p.m., free shuttle bus services will be provided every 30 minutes to encourage the public to use these services, reducing traffic congestion. The county government will also monitor road conditions and guide traffic to alternative routes as needed.

The Nantou County Transportation Management Office stated that during the Lunar New Year, the parking fee at Xitou Nature Education Area for small cars will be capped at NT$180 per day, and the parking fee at the Lugu Township Farmers’ Association Tea Culture Museum will be NT$100 per use. The county government will use CMS electronic billboards to continuously update parking information for Xitou. When the parking spaces at Xitou Nature Education Area drop below 120, a "full parking alert" will be initiated, and if it drops below 70, a "full parking guidance" mechanism will be activated. Additionally, travel time on County Road 151 will be monitored. Depending on the parking situation and travel times, three different scenarios will be implemented to guide visitors to park at the Lugu Township Farmers’ Association Tea Culture Museum and use shuttle services to Xitou or suggest alternative attractions such as Phoenix Valley Bird Park and Ruolong Waterfall. If southbound traffic leaving Xitou on County Road 151 becomes congested, traffic will be directed to alternative roads to alleviate congestion.
